Grief may manifest itself through a number of phases:

  • Denial
  • Anger
  • Bargain
  • Depression
  • Acceptance

It is important that, as you walk through this trying time, or help guide a loved one through their difficult moments, you create support systems around the person grieving.

Physiological counselling is an option that provides an individual or group with professional emotional support through their adjustment process.

Managing loss, grief and bereavement helps empower an individual as they deal with their loss.

There is no singular method to manage grief. There is no established amount of time within which an individual will have dealt with his or her loss; it is a personal affair.

Grief should never be ignored. Individuals should not be compelled to remain strong constantly in the face of their pain, or restrained from expressing themselves. They should be encouraged to confront their emotions, and express themselves in a healthy manner.

It is important to note that while grief is an innate process, it may result in depression. While grief is transitory, depression is sustained.
